What is a singing bowl?

A singing bowl is a mettalic bowl made from special alloy. It is also called the  Dhwani Patra - a resonance bowl,

in Sanskrit and in Nepali. Its sounds is produced either by striking the surface with a mallet or the back of a fi; or

by stroking or rubbing the bowl rim with a special wooden coated with velvet or leather. A singing bowl resonates delicate yet intense harmonic tones and sound vibration. Anyone can make a sound with a singing bowl with ease. Probably because of its simplicity and the pleasing ambience that it naturally creates, the instrument got its name as a Singing Bowl.
